Upang magbigay ng kaalaman sa publiko tungkol sa sakit na anthrax at mapalakas ang kahandaan ng komunidad, isinagawa ang isang forum ngayong araw sa Bayan ng Santo Niño. Dinaluhan ito ng mga opisyal ng lokal na pamahalaan na pinangungunahan ni Vice Mayor AV Roxas Pagurayan, Punong Barangays,mga barangay health workers, magsasaka, at iba pang miyembro ng komunidad.
Pinangunahan ng Department of Health at Department of Agriculture (DA) ang nasabing forum, na naglalayong magbigay ng tamang impormasyon tungkol sa anthrax – isang bihirang ngunit mapanganib na sakit na maaaring makaapekto sa hayop at tao. Ipinaliwanag ng mga eksperto na ang sakit ay karaniwang naipapasa mula sa mga kontaminadong hayop tulad ng baka, kalabaw, at kambing.
Tinalakay rin sa forum ang mga sintomas ng anthrax sa tao at hayop, kabilang ang lagnat, pamamaga, at mga sugat sa balat. Itinuro din kung paano ligtas na iwasan ang mga apektadong hayop at kung ano ang mga hakbang na dapat gawin kapag may pinaghihinalaang kaso ng anthrax.
Ang forum na ito ay bahagi ng mas malaking inisyatiba ng lokal na pamahalaan na maprotektahan ang kalusugan ng mga mamamayan at mga alagang hayop laban sa mga sakit na maaaring magdulot ng malawakang epekto sa komunidad.

Isinagawa ang Commitment Setting at Turnover Ceremony ng Project LAWA na naglalayong bigyan ng oportunidad ang mga partner-beneficiaries na maging bahagi ng pangmatagalang pagpapanatili at pagpapalawig ng mga proyekto sa kanilang mga komunidad.
Ang seremonya ay pinangunahan ng Kagawaran ng Kagalingan at Pagpapaunlad Panlipunan Rehiyon Dos (DSWD FO2), katuwang ang Lokal na Pamahalaan ng Sto. Niño sa pangunguna ng ating butihing Municipal Mayor Atty. Vicente G. Pagurayan at Vice Mayor Andrew Vincent AV Roxas Pagurayan kasama ang ibang miyembro ng Sangguniang Bayan, MSWDO personnel at marami pang iba.
Tampok sa aktibidad ang simbolikong pagbibigay ng timba na naglalaman ng mga fingerlings, at isang basket na may iba’t ibang vegetable seedlings mula sa Department of Agriculture (DA).
Ito ay hakbang upang palakasin ang sektor ng agrikultura sa lugar, na may layuning makatulong sa pag-unlad ng kabuhayan ng mga partner-beneficiaries.

ANTHRAX CASE IN STO. NIÑO, BEING INVESTIGATED!
The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office No. 2, Provincial Veterinary Office of Cagayan, and Municipal Agriculture Office of Sto. Niño conducted a joint investigation on October 17, 2024 after four buffaloes suddenly died in the area suspected to be related to anthrax.
According to the investigation, the deaths of buffaloes occurred between September 21 and October 7, 2024 owned by several farmers. Despite authorities’ advice to bury the bodies, some of them were slaughtered and consumed, causing health fears. Five of the farmers sustained skin sores and are currently being monitored and treated.
Soil samples and carcasses were collected for confirmatory analysis using bacterial isolation and Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) at the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. The dead buffaloes came out in the preliminary investigation that there is no vaccine against anthrax because there are no cases of anthrax recorded in the barangay.
In response, a massive vaccination and anthrax awareness campaign is set to conduct in Brgy. Matalao, Sto. Niño to prevent the spread of disease and to raise public knowledge.

African Swine Fever (ASF) is a highly contagious and deadly swine disease that can affect both farm- raised and wild pigs. ASF does not infect people but readily pass from one pig to another by direct contact, with bodily fluids from infected animals…As of today, there is no available vaccine that prevents ASF.
Why cull ASF infected/sick pigs?
Culling and proper disposal of infected pigs is the only solution to control ASF. Culling is preferably conducted on-site to minimize handling and movement of infected animals .
DA Administrative order No. 22, series of 2020 directs all government agencies and LGUs to strictly implement and comply with the National Zoning and Movement Plan. On the onset of the ASF outbreaks, protocol was conceptualized and introduced to manage contain and control the spread of the disease.

The municipality gathered its key stakeholders for the Pagdadapunan Festival 2024 meeting at the Office of the Municipal Mayor. The meeting aimed to discuss and finalize the proposed activities and committees for the upcoming festival.
Led by the Municipal Mayor Atty. Vicente G. Pagurayan, the meeting was attended by Department Heads, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, SK Federation, School Heads, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Sto. Niño, Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO), and the President of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Sto. Niño. The participants engaged in productive discussions, sharing their ideas and insights on how to make the festival a success.
During the meeting, the proposed activities for the Pagdadapunan Festival 2024 were presented and deliberated upon. The participants also established the Festival Ad Hoc Committees, which will be responsible for the organization and implementation of the various events and activities.
The meeting marked an important milestone in the preparation for the Pagdadapunan Festival 2024, which promises to be a celebration of culture, community, and joy.
