Techno-Demo Cum Livelihood Project on Monoculture of Tilapia in Ponds

The Harvest Field Day Techno Demo cum Livelihood Project of Tilapia Culture in Ponds has been undertaken this morning by the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist headed by Engr. Rosalie S. Tomaneng in coordination with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 2 and Provincial Offices headed by Ms. Jennifer T. Tattao. The cooperator of the Project is Mr. Danilo Calano of Centro Norte, Sto. Nino, Cagayan.

The Field Day was attended by our beloved Municipal Mayor, Atty. Vicente G. Pagurayan, SB for Agriculture, Hon. Erwin Oli, Barangay Captain Orlando D. Simeon, Senior Coop Development Specialist Robert D. Simeon, BFAR Employees, Municipal Agriculture Employees, farmers and members of Namuccayan Farmers Association.

The Project aimed to showcase tilapia farming as an alternative livelihood and test of its feasibility. It involved stocking of a 500 sqm. Pond with 2,500 tilapia fingerlings. After 4 months, 531 kiligrams were harvested, generating an Rate of Investment (ROI) of 47.95% and a Net Income of Php 27,261.00.

During the speech of our Honorable Mayor, he thanked the BFAR Family for their continued support for the development of the Fishery Sector and livelihood of the farmers of the municipality. He also said that projects like this, is a very good alternative source of income for the farmers family. He is also hopeful that BFAR will continuously extend their technical support and expertise to other interested Farmers most especially to the “Project LAWA at BINHI” recipients.
